Unlike some who were bitterly disappointed that this match wasn't India v Pakistan, I was actually looking forward to it. They're not strong batting sides, but they've both been outstanding in the field, so it looked good.

Ireland v Bangladesh )

OH MY LIFE! Sri Lanka are playing Australia today, the best team in the world. And they are resting Vaas, Murali and Malinga i.e. all their bowlers. Why?! Cynical Atherton thinks they might not be disappointed to lose this to Australia, so that they don't meet them in the semi-final. So, wha?

Not. Happy.

So, I drove Bond for the first time. Mum was nervous and very cautious with me, which was a little frustrating. However, the gear stick is slightly different, the bite is higher and the accelerator stickier than my instructor's car. Took a bit of getting used to.

World Cup: Sri Lanka v England )

Also, I'd forgotten how addictive drabbles are! To the detriment of my study, it must be admitted. Still, loving fandom at the moment.

So, I've just taken over a slot at [info]monitor_duty. Did my first update today and it's such hard work!

Collecting links, authors, ratings - too many lines of html to see straight.

And I've signed up to do this every week.

I must be mad.

(in other news, Ireland are putting up a good fight against South Africa!)

I've been looking forward to the World Cup. I'm currently listening to the India v Sri Lanka match (India have upped the pace to keep their place in the tournament and Sri Lanka are suffering) and I've kept up-to-date on the match results.

And then Bob Woolmer dies. It goes from a stress-induced tragedy, to a suspicion of drug and alcohol poisoning, and now we have murder by strangulation.

I've grown up hearing about Bob Woolmer's career, hearing him speak at the matches and I can't believe this has happened. Right after Pakistan's exit from the World Cup, the heavy suspicion falls on the team and those associated. That just...fills me with disbelief, that the world of cricket, of all things, would be marred by this.

I'm surprised that Allan Donald wants the tournament called off - he's right that Bob Woolmer would definitely not have wanted that and that, for me, is enough reason to keep going.

This is going to something that will linger for a long time and we haven't even begun to see the consequences of this.

First of all, this post will not be about the team that my geographical location would suggest it be about. Because I refuse to deal with the shame. So...

Unfortunately, I haven't turned nocturnal for the Ashes in Australia but I have been watching BBC's ten minute online highlights every day. I tutted and despaired my way through thr disaster of the first test (not dissimilar to the first test of the 2005 Ashes, I might add) and now we're well into the second.

> I left the house today. Shock! Horror! And had lunch in town. It wasn't very exciting.

> England are doing better against Pakistan now than they were this morning. Good for them! They're allowed to do well if they're not playing Sri Lanka.

> EXCITING THING: I am now the Medical Society's RAG Officer. So, if you get harassed for money in Cardiff City Centre by well-meaning medical students, I'm probably behind it. :D

> Last night, I had a dream that I was dating Horatio Caine and I'm surprisingly okay with this.

So, we have a house. (I need to care about that a little less.)

Possibly about to fail my first year because I have no work ethic and there's far too much to learn. Fingers crossed, eh?

And Sri Lanka seem to have pulled back the first test back to a draw, against all odds, scoring the highest second-innings total at Lords. Bravo!

The Australians are cheeky buggers. England go off for bad light and when the game resumes, the Aussies all have their sunglasses on.

I don't RPS.

I'm trying to convince myself of this, cos I really don't believe I should for many reasons.

However, considering it's a non-contact sport, you wouldn't believe how slashy cricket is.

That is all.

So, England have lost 7. But at least I got to see Gerry (sorry, Geraint Jones for those unused to my pet names...)bat for a while and didn't Straussy do well? *squee* He is such a sweetheart.

And, just because [info]tk_rtmt, if she ever reads this *hint*, will be both proud and distressed, I managed to move The Sims from the desktop to the Tardis. It wouldn't work and I hit upon the Registry and managed to copy the registry entries from the desktop to the Tardis and now it works!

Go me!

I really hope England(&Wales) get it together - Australia's day so far, and I really really don't want them to retain the Ashes, cos that really isn't fair.

Because it is wrong and a terrible invasion of privacy, and despite the fact that my very twisted friends want me to write it about *them*, I absolutely will not.

So, today, I'm watching the cricket - England vs Australia and Darren Gough is mucking around and raises his arms, pretending to be a ghost as a joke with Shane Watson. Okay, weird, I thought...

Then the commentators explain. The Australian team were staying in Lumley Castle in Durham, which is apparantly haunted. Shane Watson was so scared that he spent the night in Brett Lee's room.

Once, I was innocent. *sigh*

So I'm watching the Twenty20, cos I'm a cricket fan and this is the first clash of England and Australia ahead of this big summer. I thought Australia would have it, but that it may just be a close thing.

England had a good bat, breaking the ground record with 179 (remember, they only had 120 balls to do it). Australia were a little sloppy in the field, let some get away from them, which was a little surprising.

And then Australia started batting - Gilchrist hit a load of boundaries around the ground and in the third over, it was 23 for 0. And then Australia, the best cricket team in the world, lost five wickets for one run. It's 24 for 5 and everyone's in shock. And then another flurry and it's 32 for 7.

We're currently in the thirteenth over and Australia are 79 for 9. Y'know what? England may actually be real contenders for the Ashes. No one is more shocked than I.
